Hugh O’Donnell was born in Dublin in 1978 and moved to live, study and work in Belfast in 1998. He did his art degree in Fine Art and after completing that he successfully completed an M.F.A Masters degree in Fine Art, all at the University of Ulster Belfast.
He has interests in different notions of sexuality and gender. He is interested in the different meanings of what it is to be male/female. He enjoys collecting random/found objects for use in performance/action art or installations. Sometimes his work is of an auto-personal theme and other times it is just abstract and ambiguous in its meaning. Drawing usually informs the performance and the traces that are left behind after the performance are just as important as the performance itself. Hugh has exhibited his work nationally and internationally, in places such as the Trace installaction art space, Wales, U.S.A and South America Chile, various parts of Eastern Europe, Quebec and Ireland and the U.K. Hugh currently lives and works in Belfast Ireland and is on the management committee of Bbeyond, a performance art organization in Belfast.
